Over the power double of NT on board 7, I would assume that we play systems on and that 3d would show hearts since it is basically a NT overcall. Why don't we play systems on in this auction? Helps differentiate 4 and 5 hearts. EDIT: Nevermind, didn't finish the board before commenting LOL
Thanks Steven, I hadn’t picked up on partner being a passed hand here so in this case you’re quite right, you would just bid game if it was there. My query though was in general not just for this hand, whether there is a GF option for opener or overcaller in responder’s or advancer’s suit similar to the cue raise (or indeed jump cue mixed raise) that advancer has in overcaller suit. Other than splinters, I don’t know of any. I know there isn’t a bid for opener in an uncontested auction similar to responders Jacoby 2NT but I’m not sure if any option exists in a contested auction when cue bids are available.
Q on Board 8 - Hi Gavin - a general system question here that occurred to me while bidding board 8 as South. After I overcall 2C and advancer (N) changes suit to 2H showing 10+ pts as you say, what would I do if my hand wanted to GF in H - say I had a good 6 card club suit and a good 4 card heart suit with some slam ambition. I think raising to 3H is invitational rather than forcing - is there a way to show support and GF here ? I was wondering if the cue bid of 2S could mean this but I don’t think it does as it asks for a spade stop for NT as you indicated. Is there any equivalent of a cue raise for overcaller (or opener) or is this only for advancer or responder? Thanks
My thoughts as a fellow student. With RHO opening and Partner as a passed hand, rather than looking for a game forcing bid, you should probably just blast game. If you could splinter in their suit, you might make up for their points with your distribution. As far as bidding 3♣, however Partner interprets it, it is forcing and you will get another chance to bid after getting info from Partner.

Think I’m asking the same question- in board 7 would 3D not be transfer to H like over a NT overcall ? -sorry - you addressed this later in the video
Hand 6. I opened 1d, pass & my ptr bid 2c to create a game force. North came in with 4c ! But even 3c would have created a problem for us, as we have a spade fit that hasn't been mentioned! I continued with x and south bid 4h !! My ptr xd pass from north, and I bid 5c!! This was intended to show my void and ask ptr to bid 5d or 6. She chose 5nt! I then bid 6d which made!! A bizarre auction, I'm sure you will agree. Clearly the 2c was wrong. Is the guideline here that responder should always show a major before the gf? Thx R

Board 7 if the bidding went 1d-x-2S-p-p-2nt (North power X). Did you decide if systems are on? They have basically overcalled a strong NT(19+). You talk about not knowing whether it is or isn't in the video.
ON 8 would you open 1Nt with East?
My comments as a student. Gavin opens 1♠ in his post-mortem My 2 cents. Even though the hand meets the requirements for 1NT, I want to show my major 2-suiter, not balanced. I would have been prepared to bid 2♥ on my second turn had North not bid them.
