Three Questions on Bd #6, After N bids 1N, how is a X by E used? If the 1N is passed around to W, how is a double used? Are new suits by W NF?
Support double by opener. (I play this is the only support double which isn't mandatory, you would only do it with an unbalanced hand). Takeout / values by responder. Yes new suits by west are NF, you would always start with double with a strong hand.
Bd 6 - You recommend opening a club then rebidding 1NT with 2=2=4=5 shape. What do you open with 1-3-4=5 or 3-1-4=5? *assuming you are not strong enough to reverse
It would depend on my hand. If my diamonds are reasonably I would usually open 1♦, unless my clubs were exceptional then I'd open 1♣.
then if p bids your singleton, what is your rebid?
If I opened 1♦ I would rebid 2♣. If I opened 1♣ I would panic at the last second and decide between 1N and 2♣. I teach never to rebid 1NT with a singleton but I would do it with x AQx xxxx AQxxx. Thats a hand I wouldnt open 1♦ and cant bring myself to open 1♣ and rebid 2♣.
On board 3, sitting East, I thought there was a good chance of slam if partner has 5 diamonds - a hand something like the East hands on 5 and 6. So I tried 2-way with 2♦ to GF. Hearing 2NT I bid 4NT but I think you're right, should just give up on my 4333 18 at that point. Do you think it was worth trying the 2♦?
If partner has 5 diamonds they won't have 14 points. Its just a 3NT bid.
