B3 What would (1m) 3m. mean. Is the difference between passing first and bidding 2m or jump bidding the suit a matter of length? Or does the jump mean something completely different
(1m) 3m is natural and preemptive, but a very decent suit because you know it's likely not to break well. The hand on board 3 is too strong and also missing a diamond for that bid.
On B5, I felt slam was a possibility. If partner has five losers, I can eliminate four of them. With AK of hearts and a spade void. we can make 6H. I bid 4NT and Lia bid 5NT showing two key cads and a void. But Lia did not have two KC and a void.
Please hit the report button on the hand record. Thats the way we can improve Lia. They are very quick to fix bugs.
On B1 what does N do with only five spades? Maybe 5224 or 5134?
Can you give me an actual hand? My guess is they would pass most of the time.
Hi again - another one - on board 3, if S opens a weak NT and west overcalls 3D, is N strong enough to compete to 3H and what would 3H show here - it’s difficult as the space to bid lebensohl to distinguish between competitive and constructive 3 bids is not there over 3 level interference. I think I’ve figured out transfer Lebensohl to cope with two level overcalls of 1NT but not sure of the best way forward over 3 level overcalls.
The standard way to play the 3 level bids are natural and game forcing. North isn't really strong enough to do that. What I teach in "Dealing with Interference after 1NT" is that 3H = spades INV+, 3S = hearts GF. Thats expert standard.

Hi Gavin, on board 4, I felt that the N hand was a little too good to rebid 2S over the 2C cue raise ( for me that would normal, show below opening values and I would open the N hand 1S) I didn’t like 3S as that would show 6 and decided on 3D which I think should be a splinter - this is probably a big overbid but if partner bids 3S or makes a non-serious cue bid I can go back to 4S and if partner is really strong and makes a serious 3NT then my hand might be good for slam - is it still too much of an overbid do you think ?
I dont play any of those kinds of splinters in these auctions. I really don't like showing where I am short to the defense on hands that are headed to 4M. If I wasnt going to bid 2♠, I would bid 2♥. Youre right that 2♠ feels like not enough. Its close.
That’s a good point - I suspect I don’t think enough about hiding info from the defence - something for me to work on
PS: I forgot to mention that North was Lia, the robot, of course. I can't imagine any human being making that bid on that hand.
B6. You OK 4C, but I've been working on your recent advice not to compete to 4 of a minor? Another question: playing Hs, on a Diamond lead, instead of starting on trumps might you play Diamonds for Club discards, which works if W has at most one small Heart (and possibly the Ace)?
Gavin's take on Texas was new to me. I used it in the tourney preemptively, which is what I thought it was. Here that is effective in shutting East-West up because it looks as if 4C is cold, so going down may not be bad. As it was, the defence never found its club tricks, so I made an overtrick.
Knowing whether to compete to 4m is not a perfect science. I may have ok'd it but I didnt include it in the suggested bidding. You might try diamonds first, but it opens the door to them ruffing out an extra diamond trick. I would expect the diamonds 4-2 with the takeout double.
On board 2 I opened 1C as East, partner bid 1H, North doubled, and I redoubled to show three hearts. Now partner bid 3C which I thought was a limit raise, denying a five-card heart suit (else why return to a minor when you have a known major-suit fit). I passed and we missed the cold 4H game. Please comment.
You're correct. 3♣ in that auction should simply be an invite. Partner needs to cuebid to set a game force if they want to investigate slam.
