On Board 8, the auction started 1NT 2C 2D 2H And your comment was that the 1NT bidder (West) would understand the 2H bid to mean 5-5 in the majors and weak. How would E tell W that she had 4 spades, 5 hearts and 8 or 9 points?
Bid 2D (transfer to hearts), when partner bids 2H bid 2S, shows an invite with 5H and 4S
This is just a matter of partnership agreement. I have played my whole life that 1N-2C-2D-2H shows a weak hand with both majors and this is standard practice these days. What you do with 4-5 in the majors and 8-9 points is up for discussion. As Vidar said above, that is what I do with my 4-5 invites. I bid 2D-2H-2S. I play with my partners this shows either 5-5 or 4-5 invitational. Some people play it shows specifically 4-5 invitational. Thats a little simpler.
