Is this lesson open to the public so that I could forward it to my friend and potential future bridge partner?
They just need to create a free Wolpert Bridge account, all that is required is name and email address. They do not need to purchase any lessons to be able to access free content (Interactive Problems, Learning Game post-mortem videos, ...) on the website.

We have a 'Duplicate Game' on Tuesdays at 3:15pm ET on the IntoBridge platform. And after the game, Gavin usually has a free post-mortem on Zoom going over all the deals. Anybody can join the game and the post-mortem. This Tuesday Gavin is busy. So, we will upload the pre-recorded post-mortem video to the Wolpert website after the game. Firstly, on the bidding I would have been tempted by a takeout double as South. I can see this causes problems on this layout, though - North would not want to respond in ♠ given they were opened by East, so probably has to respond 2♣. Then South might think that North has 5 clubs, and we end up missing the heart fit (or at least, that makes it much harder to find). So is that why a 2♥ overcall is better here? Because you have a strong 5-card major? On my first play through I spotted the right line (ruff 2 diamonds in dummy) but still ended up 1 off, because I then tried to draw trumps. I think I was scared of my club winner being ruffed, I didn't realise that it didn't matter because that doesn't gain West an extra trick. Excellent learning experience all round, thank you.
This hand is pretty borderline between double then bid hearts, or overcall hearts and hopefully make a takeout double later. It's just a tiny hair light for doubling and bidding a suit, which is why Gavin overcalls 2H with it.

Forget that question. I get it that then you lose the trick.
When opponent leads the A spades, why not dump a low diamond on that trick? Why ruff it?
